Our Movement
Founded in 2023, Kansas City Theatre Safety Initiative (KCTSI) was formed by a group of local theatre artists with the mission to provide an avenue of support for community members and companies to unite in a common understanding of how to keep our shared creative spaces safe.

We have built a community agreement to outline strategies and solutions that will aid individuals and companies in avoiding incidents which involve unsafe practices. The agreement is crafted in the vein of Not In Our House and other similar movements already established in cities like Chicago, New York, and Minneapolis.
The agreement will eventually be sent to all KC theatre companies for mutual commitment, after a process of seeking feedback and edits from the community at large.
We invite all members of the community to contribute to the creation of this agreement.
Please click below to read the January 2025 draft of the agreement, and give your feedback.

Join the KC Theatre Safety Initiative in conversation this March at our next Public Forum! Engage with the KCTSI committee at the Kansas City Public Library: Plaza Branch on Saturday, March 21! We'll continue to develop the community standards agreement, and discuss the future of work safety in KC’s theatre industry.
We’ll address the following topics:
Children’s Theater
Diversity and Inclusion
Intimacy, Violence, and Movement
Sexual Harassment
Equal Access Accommodations

This is a two-hour drop-in event, so feel free to come and go as you need! We’ll have printed materials available to help guide the conversation.
Snacks and water will be provided. Parking is available in the lot on the South side of the library, off of Main Street. There will be a livestream/video recording available for those who can’t attend the event in person.

Please email us at kctheatresafety@gmail.com if you are interested in receiving the livestream/recording link, if you need transportation assistance, or if you have any access needs that we should be aware of to help you meaningfully engage in the discussion.
